Passion Fruit and Grapes The trial carried out by Luis C. Lopes was for the purpose of finding out if ALKA FOLI product was effective in the control of fungus, namely Fusarium Oxysporium and Glomerella cigulato and bacterias/diseases. Fungus is a worldwide problem for farmers and horticulturalists and in particular viticulturists. (Grape Growers) Fisaroi, Pxus[proi, This is a fungus in Brazil which originated from the growing of coffee. Land now used for the growing of other produce, is being affected by this fungus and it lies dormant in the ground for up to 10 years. Coffee itself is not affected by fungus. This is a major problem for farmers in Brazil. Glomerella cigulato This is a more common fungus and affects a wide range of crops grown in many parts of the world and the main cause is wet or very humid conditions. In Brazil, Soya bean crops also suffer from this problem and therefore it is very easy to begin assessing the size of this market. Septoria Another common fungus. Fungus attacks and kills the leaves and causes them to drop off. The disease will eventually spread to the fruit, however the first problem that occurs is that without the protection of the leaves, the fruit is exposed to the sun and becomes sun burnt and at that point worthless to the grower. Because no other high alkaline product can be used in agriculture, early indications are that it is the high pH of ALKA FOLI is the reason for the early success achieved in these trials. However this does not eliminate the possibility that something else in ALKA FOLI product is also assisting.
In order for the ALKA FOLI to adhere to the leaves and fruit, a sticking agent was mixed with the product before spraying. The sticking agent was Fersol Mineral Oil. The trial was conducted against a widely used fungicide Dithane, which is manufactured by Rohm and Haas Chemical Ltd. RESULTS WITH ALKA FOLI

INSECTICIDE Another major problem that exists here in Brazil is plants attacked by an insect called Holineya Clavigera that effectively poisons the plant and destroys it. The insecticide used for control is Ethion 500 and is manufactured by Thodia.
Crops that were sprayed with ALKA FOLI rejected attacks from this bug.
