Interphase The DNA of each chromosome replicates itself. This happens before the process of Mitosis begins.
Prophase (First Phase) ● Chromosomes condense and become visible ● Chromosomes form into two strands called Chromatids ● Two Chromatids are held together by the centromere ● Spindle apparatus forms at opposite sides (poles)
Metaphase ● Nuclear envelope and nucleolus disappear ● Spindle fully develops ● Chromosomes move until they attach to the spindle fibers from opposite sides ● Chromosomes align facing the spindle poles
Anaphase ● Centromeres break apart in the cell ● Chromosomes split and are dragged toward the centrioles, which are on opposite sides of the cell, by spindle fibers ● Cleavage furrow appears to begin to divide the cell
Telophase ● The nuclear envelope and both nuclei appear in the cell ● The cytoplasm and organelles divide equally for each of new cells ● By the end of telophase the cell has divided into two daughter cells, each having identical genetic characteristics ● Cell division is complete :)
Cytokinesis ● T he division of cytoplasm. This completely separates the two new identical daughter cells after the division is complete
