Original Data Center

  • CHALLENGES:

– Customized non-industry standard hardware and software architecture; – Overwhelming majority of hardware was out-of-date; – Multiple instances of hardware failure throughout the 2014-15 academic year impacting critical services for multiple days—age and heat related event from 2013-14; – Heterogeneous environment (variety of data center hardware and hosting software); – Electrical distribution within the space and improper cooling or not enough cooling; – Limited redundancy in backups, electrical, heating, cooling, and connectivity.

BENEFIT ITS:

This deployment method allows NPS to have a more reliable network to host our services.

Some of advantages include redundant network, redundant storage, Tier II/III power and cooling, less maintenance time and cost, and lower lifecycle cost.

Shared Services spans all University of Oklahoma campuses—with datacenters and IT professionals in Norman and Oklahoma City to provide local customer support.
