KCCT Assessment

  • The Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT) is a criterion-

referenced test based on Kentucky’s content standards. The test items measure Kentucky Core Content for Assessment, a subset of the Program of Studies. Both of these documents define student expectations by content area and grade level.

  • The results of this test are used to evaluate the school

program in the state accountability system.

  • The results from the reading and math content areas are

also used to meet federal testing and reporting requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).

How can we improve?

Here are the following Core Content bullets that are associated with Interpreting Text.

  • RD-EP-3.0.1 - Students will explain a character’s or speaker’s actions based on a

passage. DOK 3

  • RD-EP-3.0.4 - Students will identify main ideas and details that support them.

DOK 3

  • RD-EP-3.0.5 - Students will identify fact or opinion from a passage.

DOK 2

  • RD-EP-3.0.6 - Students will identify information in a passage that is supported by

fact. DOK 2

Throughout the school year it will be important to focus on these bullets to help improve students understanding in the Interpreting Text category.

Number Properties was identified as a weakness in both multiple choice and open response scores, therefore it would prove beneficial to focus on the following core content bullets:

  • MA-EP-1.1.1 - Students will apply multiple representations (e.g., drawings, manipulatives, base-10 blocks,

number lines, expanded form, symbols) to describe whole numbers (0 to 9,999): apply multiple representations (e.g., drawings, manipulatives, base-10 blocks, number lines, symbols) to describe fractions (halves, thirds, fourths); apply these numbers to represent real-world problems and explain how the base 10 number system relates to place value. DOK 2

  • MA-EP-1.1.3 - Students will compare (<, >, =) and order whole numbers to whole numbers, decimals to

decimals (as money only) and fractions to fractions (limited to pictorial representations). DOK 2

  • MA-EP-1.2.1 - Students will apply and describe appropriate strategies for estimating quantities of objects

and computational results (limited to addition and subtraction). DOK 2

  • MA-EP-1.3.1 - Students will analyze real-world problems to identify appropriate representations using

mathematical operations, and will apply operations to solve real-world problems with the following constraints: add and subtract whole numbers with three digits or less; multiply whole numbers of 10 or less;• add and subtract fractions with like denominators less than or equal to four add and subtract decimals related to money. DOK 2

  • MA-EP-1.5.1 - Students will identify and provide examples of odd numbers, even numbers and multiples
  • f a number, and will apply these numbers to solve real-world problems.

Our scores are very consistent on Open Responses, however we could use improvements in Earth/Space Science on the multiple choice section. The following Core Content bullets are associated with Earth/Space Science and would be a place to focus.

  • SC-04-2.3.1 - Students will classify earth materials by the ways that they
  • are used; explain how their properties make them useful for different purposes.

DOK2

  • SC-04-2.3.2 - Students will describe and explain consequences of changes to

the surface of the Earth, including some common fast changes (e.g., landslides, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes), and some common slow changes (e.g., erosion, weathering). DOK 3

  • SC-04-2.3.3 - Students will make generalizations and/or predictions about

weather changes from day to day and over seasons based on weather data. DOK3

  • SC-04-2.3.4 - Students will identify patterns, recognize relationships and draw

conclusions about the Earth-Sun system by interpreting a variety of representations/models (e.g., diagrams, sundials, distance of sun above horizon)

  • f the sun’s apparent movement in the sky. DOK 3

What Does This Mean?

  • Each grade level has their own weaknesses and strengths.
  • It is important that we continue to provide students with

rigorous lesson plans to maintain our strengths.

  • At the same time we need to re-evaluate our lesson plans

that address our weaknesses and improve them with more rigorous activities and assessments.

  • As a school we average higher open response scores in

Math, because of this we may want to consider adding more

  • pen response instruction to our RTI plans.

SLIDE 40

The Future

  • The 2011 school year will bring a new set of standards and criteria for

assessment.

  • The district has created a crosswalk that relates the current Core

Content Standards to the future Common Core Standards.

  • The documents below will direct you to the Common Core Standards

crosswalks created by the district.
