In 2011, the current owners acquired the property and embarked on a major refurbishment to restore this timeless gem to its original glory. The building is under protection of the Heritage D e p a r t m e n t U N E S C O g u i d e l i n e s ; n o modification could be made that failed to respect the architecture and majesty. To retain

  • riginal key features, such as the wooden

ceilings and original staircases, the elaborate renovation project has taken close to 7 years. The Mansion is one of 5 unique properties throughout Estonia reflecting this unique architectural era. It is said when the Transport Committee from St. Petersbourg arrived for a visit shortly after, they were surprised that the Head of Railroad in Tallinn had a more luxurious home than his counterpart in St. Petersbourg! Commissioned in 1904 by the Governor of Estonia, the Mansion was originally built for the Head of the Baltic Railroad, Engineer Safronov. Designed in an Italian art nouveau style, Estonian architect Viktor Vassiljev began work in 1905 and completed the project in 1907.
